Last week fdu hosted their inaugural Committed to Growth Business Breakfast series event. We were delighted to welcome speaker Rory Coleman who spoke about his From Average2Awesome programme and how high performance sport’s techniques can translate to increased productivity and results in business.

Rory is a high performance running coach who launched the ‘Average2Awesome’ corporate coaching programme which focuses on health, fitness and wellbeing. This programme was successfully piloted at Dixons Carphone in 2014 and rolled out to Dixons Carphone, GoCompare and Smeg UK this year with dramatic effect. As well as fitness and weight loss, participants developed closer working relationships and showed greater productivity in the workplace.

Held at fdu’s Mayfair offices, guests from the Finance community gathered to hear about Rory’s story, his motivation behind his personal fitness journey and how he translated this process of change into a new business and lifestyle at the age of 31.

Rory shared his thoughts on how goal setting, maintaining focus and belief are key behaviours for delivering results and success.  He then spoke about dealing with setbacks and be how to be in the mind-set of always doing something to the best of your ability. He also asked some thought provoking questions to the group, asking them to assess their own ‘eliteness’.

Our guests (and the fdu team) left the session feeling inspired and energised and wanting to hear more. As this is the first in our Committed to Growth series of events, we plan to invite Rory back as he and his coaching programme perfectly exemplify the synergies in performance across both business and sport.

“ThaRory (1)nk you for the invite. I was hanging on Rory’s every word.  What a thoroughly enjoyable presentation.”

Perry Yam, Head of PE at Mayer Brown
